We are greatly saddened by the news that the NCRI will be winding down, after 22 amazing years of supporting the cancer research community in the UK.
PCR joined the NCRI in 2019 and benefitted greatly from our membership through working with the NCRI to analyse the funding landscape and identify where we could have the most impact for patients. Proposals guidance meetings run with the NCRI have strengthened the research proposals that came before us, most notably for our work to tackle prostate cancer’s racial disparities. The creation of a bone metastasis network and influencing the sector to put more effort against this challenge after we first brought the evidence base to them that this area desperately needed more support was vital for our work, as was the opportunity to network with other leaders in cancer research.
We thank the NCRI for their invaluable work, and we hope to work with the staff and board of the NCRI as it winds down and with other charity partners where our resources and remit allows, to maintain what we can of the NCRI’s contributions to the sector. Our thoughts and best wishes are with the NCRI staff and Board at this time.
