Jack's Jolly Christmas Cards
16 year old artist Jack Finnis has been busy getting creative by designing and selling Christmas Cards for PCR and other local charities . We spoke to him to find out what inspires him and why he is fundraising this Christmas.
Where do you get your inspiration from for your designs?
I get my inspiration for my designs from my family, school and the world around me, and my ideas for Christmas cards come from what I love about Christmas: striking holly, plump red robins and delicate snowflakes. I also like to explore the playful side of every occasion with the characters Michael the mouse, Harry the hare and Brock the badger who are best friends. They get up to all kinds of mischief on toboggans and trampolines, and I draw them all digitally using my iPad and stylus.
Do you have any advice or tips for people wanting to start drawing and designing?
My advice to people who want to start selling and raise money is to do what you love. My passion is Art, so I decided to sell cards for charity because they are relatively simple to design, but can be printed on a large scale for a wide audience of people. I also love Computer Science, and my business has taught me how to build my own website with online payments. Therefore my second tip to artists would be to sell your products online to increase reach and to share your designs further.
Why did you decide to support Prostate Cancer Research by selling your cards?
I decided to support the Prostate Cancer Research because my grandpa was diagnosed 15 years ago, and new medication has allowed him to not only stabilise his illness, but remarkably get better. For that I am very grateful to medical research, and I want to continue supporting him and others through the increasing research the charity is carrying out.
