Jack's Jolly Christmas Cards

16 year old artist Jack Finnis has been busy getting creative by designing and selling Christmas Cards for PCR and other local charities . We spoke to him to find out what inspires him and why he is fundraising this Christmas.

Hi Jack - thanks for answering some questions for us today! Let's start with a bit about you. How long have you been drawing and painting for, and what inspired you to start?

Hi, I’m Jack and I am a 16-year old artist. I have been drawing and painting since I was 11 years old when I drew my first Christmas card as a commission for my Grandparents.

I loved the feeling of earning money, so since then I have added to my collection of Christmas and greeting cards every year, and I now sell them on my website www.jackfinnis.com with all profits going to the Prostate Cancer Research and other local charities.

Where do you get your inspiration from for your designs?

I get my inspiration for my designs from my family, school and the world around me, and my ideas for Christmas cards come from what I love about Christmas: striking holly, plump red robins and delicate snowflakes. I also like to explore the playful side of every occasion with the characters Michael the mouse, Harry the hare and Brock the badger who are best friends. They get up to all kinds of mischief on toboggans and trampolines, and I draw them all digitally using my iPad and stylus.

Do you have any advice or tips for people wanting to start drawing and designing?

My advice to people who want to start selling and raise money is to do what you love. My passion is Art, so I decided to sell cards for charity because they are relatively simple to design, but can be printed on a large scale for a wide audience of people. I also love Computer Science, and my business has taught me how to build my own website with online payments. Therefore my second tip to artists would be to sell your products online to increase reach and to share your designs further.

Why did you decide to support Prostate Cancer Research by selling your cards?

I decided to support the Prostate Cancer Research because my grandpa was diagnosed 15 years ago, and new medication has allowed him to not only stabilise his illness, but remarkably get better. For that I am very grateful to medical research, and I want to continue supporting him and others through the increasing research the charity is carrying out.

You’re selling Christmas cards this year with all profits going to charity! How can anyone reading this buy your cards to support you and PCR, and which of the Christmas cards is your favourite design?

This year I am selling Christmas Cards and greeting cards with all profits going to charity.  You can buy my Christmas cards by visiting www.jackfinnis.com! All cards come in packs of 5 costing £4, and over £2.50 goes to charity per pack sold! Payment and delivery options are all included on my website.

I would say my favourite Christmas card design is “Playing in the Snow!” which is the new card I designed for Christmas this year. The friends Michael, Harry and Brock all have beaming smiles on their faces and I think it captures the Christmas joy. Happy Christmas!
